Securely hang heavy blankets, tapestries, or quilts using powerful rare earth magnets—no nails or screws to damage your blankets! This method is perfect for displaying gorgeous blankets, soundproofing, or adding warmth and style to your walls. We’ve even got a detailed instructional video to make things smooth and easy! So let’s do this! ♡
I just love blankets! There’s something just so cozy, warm and loving about blankets that make me immediately feel comforted. It makes me sad to see gorgeous blankets hidden away in blanket boxes or on a shelf. So I knew I had to come up with a way to display them without risking damaging them with nails or hooks.
Steps to hang blankets using magnets
STEP BY STEP to hanging blankets
STEP 1: Measure and Prepare
Roughly measure your wall & mark out where the studs are located.
STEP 2: Chose a mounting surface
You’ll need to secure your magnets into a mounting surface before hanging it on the wall. See our video for lots of suggestions on mounting surfaces for different looks. We used a piece of driftwood that we ran through our planner to create a flat but rustic surface.
STEP 3: Measure, Mark & Magnetize
Next you’ll need to measure and mark out where you’d like to hang your blankets on the board. This is where you’ll use a Forstner bit on your drill to drill our a hole for the magnet anchors. See my video for more details and suggestions.
STEP 4: Hang your favourite blankets
We’ve designed 2-easy and damage free ways to hang your blankets onto your mounting board. See below and our video for more details!
2-easy ways to hang blankets
If you’ve never handled a rare-earth magnet, you’ll perhaps not yet appreciate just how powerful they are. Their strength has to do with what they are made from. Rare-earth magnets are made of neodymium iron boron (NdFeB). The electron array in neodymium has one of the highest magnetic properties of any magnetic alloy. Strong ones can have an attractive power 1000 times the weight of the magnet! Now that’s power!
We came up with two unique ways to hang your beautiful blankets without damaging them using rare earth magnets. The method that you chose is up to you, however, if you follow my tips you’ll have the greatest chance at success! First, you must secure a mounting board to your wall. How you do this is totally up to you. We wanted a more rustic look, so we opted for a piece of driftwood. See our how to video for lost of suggestions!
Method 1: After installing the magnet cup and washer set onto your chosen mounting surface, simply use the magnetic to hang your blanket on the wall. It will seem to float effortlessly on your wall!
Method 2: After installing the magnet cup and washer set onto your chosen mounting surface, make a simple slip knot using a thick rope and attach it to your magnet using jute. See my follow-along instructional video to see how I tie this knot.
ENJOY YOUR GORGEOUS hanging blankets!
