Why Use Dry Shampoo?
Dry shampoo is a versatile hair care product that absorbs excess oil and grease from your scalp and hair, effectively extending the time between washes. Not only does it help you maintain a fresh, clean look, but it also adds volume and texture to your hair, making it easier to style and manage. Plus, using dry shampoo can reduce the frequency of washing, which can help preserve your hair’s natural oils and prevent dryness and damage over time.

how to diy dry shampoo
- If adding customization: in a small mixing bowl, combine the arrowroot powder with either cocoa powder (for dark hair) or cinnamon (for reds).
- Optionally add 5-10 drops of your favourite essential oil for fragrance, if desired. Make sure it is not an oil that creates photosensitivity as this powder will go onto your scalp
- Mix thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Transfer the arrowroot powder (with optional add-ins) to a clean, airtight container for storage. I like to use a spice jar with holes on the top.
- To use, shake a little of the dry shampoo onto your hand. Rub a fine tooth comb into the powder until it is coated on both sides. Comb powder directly onto the roots of your hair, focusing on oily areas. Optionally massage into the scalp and hair with your fingertips.
- Then brush your hair thoroughly from root to tip.
TIPS FOR SAFE USE OF DIY DRY SHAMPOO
- AVOID INHALATION: using a fine tooth comb vs a make-up brush to apply this DIY dry shampoo helps decrease the possibility of inhaling the powder into your lungs.
- WASH HAIR PRIOR TO COLOURING: before heading to the salon to have your hair coloured ensure to wash the DIY Dry Shampoo out of your hair. This will ensure to avoid any interference or reaction with the colourants.
- WIPE EXCESS POWDER OFF HANDS BEFORE APPLYING: this will help control where the dry shampoo is applied.
- GIVE THE DRY SHAMPOO TIME TO WORK IT’S MAGIC: Don’t rush and give the powder a few minutes to absorb the moisture before adding more.
