The Ultimate Salted Caramel Flakes
(2 ingredient salted caramel sprinkles)
This Ultimate Salted Caramel Flakes recipe is so incredibly delicious, fast and easy to make, you’ll wonder why you ever bought sprinkles in the first place! It will take your edible garnishes to a whole new level!
I am a BIG fan of salted caramel anything, there’s just something about the mix of sweet with slightly salty that I adore! What I don’t like all of the processed “STUFF” that I can’t pronounce that goes into it! I love edible garnishes that make food not only taste amazing but look pretty & more appetizing especially if they are super easy to make!
Use these Salted Caramel Flakes anywhere you’d normally like a burst of caramel flavour! Like a bowl of ice cream, coconut yogurt, or try them on top of one of my Summertime Frappés! Like my Coco Caramel Coffee Frappé pictured below.
These Salted Caramel Flakes are so easy to make, and incredibly delicious you’ll be amazed! The crunchy mix of sweet & salty they add to any dessert or drink is to die for! ♡

2 SIMPLE INGREDIENTS
(in The Ultimate Salted Caramel Flakes)
- Turbinado Sugar
Turbinado Sugar comes from sugarcane but is less processed than regular sugar. It has larger crystals than brown sugar. Turbinado is partially refined, maintaining some of its molasses content from the sugarcane which lends it a subtle caramel flavour! This makes it a perfect choice for our Salted Caramel Flakes!
- Kosher Salt
Is a larger crystal salt that does not contain iodine. Make sure to use kosher salt or a larger crystal salt for this recipe as if you use smaller crystals you will use way too much.
That’s it! That’s all! 2 simple ingredients is all you need!
HOW TO MAKE THE ULTIMATE SALTED CARAMEL FLAKES
Seriously, you won’t believe how easy this is! You know when you bake something that is topped with sugar, like a pie or scones? The sugar often crystallizes on the tray…that’s exactly what we’re going to do!
Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C). Don’t use convection as the sugar will blow all over the place!
Step 2: Evenly distribute sugar & salt on a parchment lined tray. Spread the crystals apart more & they will become sprinkles. Closer together they will melt into one and become flakes.
TIP: I like to fold the edges of my parchment so that the sugar & salt do not roll off my tray.
Step 3: Place your pan carefully on the bottom rack. Bake until the sugar & salt melt into one another – for me this is at exactly 5 mins. DO NOT walk away from the oven! At the 3 min point, watch carefully as burnt sugar is so gross! These will turn from golden beauties to burnt garbage in seconds!
Step 4: Promptly remove the tray from the oven & let cool. Break apart your flakes and store in a mason jar (just as you do sugar & salt) in a cool place. I find they stay lovely little crystals and don’t stick together.
ENJOY!
